When you think of the Thor movies, the one word that's not likely to come up at all is "fun," unless you're referring specifically to what Tom Hiddleston is having lots of on screen. Thankfully, all of that's gonna change with Thor: Ragnarok, which looks to follow in the fun mode of the other two MCU movies we've gotten this year: Guardians Vol. 2 and Spider-Man: Homecoming. In other words, I think we're in for a heck of a good time.
I don't want to get my hopes too high because this movie likely ends with a bunch of cgi monstrosities battling cgi versions of our heroes, but let's not ruin it just yet. Guardians 2 had a noisy climax that still managed to be a lot of fun and led to a very emotional denouement and resolution. Homecoming had a super low stakes climax that still managed to feel big and overwhelming because we experienced it from the hero's perspective.
I think that director Taika Waititi and the entire cast are really having a lot of fun, probably because there are such low expectations for a Thor movie. It won't take much for this to be the best Thor movie yet, but it's gonna take a pretty great movie to contend for best CBM of 2017. Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3.
