This weekend's release of The Disaster Artist has renewed interest in the film's subject material, the notoriously terrible 2003 movie The Room. The good folks over at Screen Junkies have put together one of their Honest Trailers about The Room and it's a pretty decent six minute summation of ninety minutes of pure insanity.
If you haven't seen The Room, it's more or less an inside look at the mind of a seriously disturbed individual, which is patently obvious on first viewing, and only grows more so the more you learn about the man behind it all, Tommy Wiseau. I'll retain enough of the mystery to say that he's a one of a kind dude, much like all of the men who have made famously awful films from Ed Wood on down to Uwe Boll. But Wiseau's in a class of weirdo all his own... in a mostly good way.
Anyway, I suppose the ultimate irony would be for The Disaster Artist to actually win Wiseau an Academy Award, but with no official creative capacity on the film, the Oscars would instead go to the guys making money off of his failure. If that's not the American Dream, I don't know what is. The Disaster Artist opens in limited release this weekend and then expands throughout the country over the next few weeks.
