You can only make so many jokes about Hollywood scraping the bottom of the barrel before you feel like you're scraping the bottom of the barrel yourself. So with that in mind, I'm just going to leave the snarky commentary aside and let you know that, for some reason, they're making a movie based on Marshmallow Peeps.
Granted, The Lego Movie was a huge hit, so I understand that childhood nostalgia is all the rage. But The Lego Movie was based on a beloved children's toy, not a piece of candy people eat once a year. With Legos, you can pretty much build whatever your imagination desires. With Peeps, you can either eat them, or put them in the microwave and watch them expand. That's pretty much it.
Adam Rifkin, who directed Detroit Rock City and Underdog, is behind the project. And considering $2 Billion worth of Peeps are sold in the US every year, there's obviously a market for them. But just because people are willing to shove the marshmallow candy into an Easter basket doesn't necessarily mean they're willing to spend two hours watching a Peep-based movie. But I guess time will tell.
