TV & FILM
bill-swift - April 9, 2013
Remember when Days of Thunder came out? Director Tony Scott gave NASCAR the slick Hollywood treatment, and all of a sudden watching cars drive around in circles on TV didn't seem boring any more.
Well, now another of Hollywood's biggest directors is trying to do the same for Formula 1 racing. That director is none other than Academy Award-winner Ron Howard, and the film in question is a biopic called Rush. It stars Daniel Brühl as F1 racer Niki Lauda, a guy had his eyelids burned off in a fiery crash, but returned to the track just six weeks later to compete against his English rival, James Hunt. That guy is played by Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth.
Judging by the trailer, this picture is going to be more stylized than realistic. At times it sort of looks like these dudes are racing their cars around Mordor or something. That's probably just as well, though, because who wants to watch realistic sports movies, anyway?
Rush hits theaters September 20, 2013.
