Christopher Guest is the king of mockumentaries. I've seen dozens of copycats at film festivals but no one comes close to Guest. Not only did he star in the greatest mockumentary of all time, This is Spinal Tap, he also directed Best in Show and Waiting For Guffman which are also masterpieces. In this one for Netflix, Guest brings back some of the usual suspects like Parker Posey and Fred Willard along with newcomers like Chris O'Dowd to tell the tale of a team mascot competition. It's called, creatively, Mascots. There is a pretty good doc series on Hulu called Behind the Mask that covers this same topic. It's an odd world, the one of team mascots. Guest tapped into that world for what looks like a truly hilarious mock-doc.
Netflix is really batting a 1000 these days. Their failures are few and far between and most of their shows are huge hits.Â
