This August, The Tick returns to television in a new series from Amazon Prime. This will be the third go-around for Ben Edlund's meta take on superheroes following an animated series in the mid-90s and a live-action series in the early aughts that starred Seinfeld's David Puddy as The Tick.
Amazon debuted the series last summer with a pilot and the show was picked up for a first season shortly thereafter. This time around, British comedian Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy) steps into the title role with Griffin Newman (Vinyl) and Valorie Curry (House of Cards) playing his brother and sister sidekicks Arthur and Dot Everest. Also along for the ride is Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen) as villainous The Terror—the ugly looking dude with the pointy red shoulder pads seen in the trailer.
This trailer certainly seems promising, and lord knows we need a decent comedic take on the superhero genre in this day and age. Hopefully this fits the bill and proves what fans of the character have known all along... he was just way ahead of his time. It looks like his time has come. The first season of The Tick debuts exclusively on Amazon on August 25.
