When I was a kid my grandmother bought me the original Gameboy and it came with one of the greatest most addictive games ever: Tetris. It is arguably the greatest and certainly the most successful puzzle game of all time. Still, there isn't really a plot to it. It's vaguely Russian and the rest is a bunch of blocks connecting together. So, it's a little surprising that the Tetris company and Threshold Global Studios is making a movie based on the game. This isn't a documentary on the history of Tetris, but a fictional "epic sci-fi thriller". It will be a joint Chinese-American production and will star an international cast. I wonder if it will just be footage of people lying on top of each other trying to create straight lines? Because other than that I don't see how it could work.
This kind of reminds me about the Battleship movie that came out a few years ago. They took a fun little board game of little plastic ships on a grid and turned it into a garbage fire of a movie with aliens. I can't imagine a world in which a Tetris movie doesn't suck.
