If I had heard there was a movie titled BlacKkKlansmen five years ago I would have thought it was ridiculous. Clearly the producers were just trying to use something provocative to get some free publicity and make some headlines. But now, not so much. It kind of seems natural that the Klan would try to repackage themselves. They have been around a long time and they have not rebranded once as far as I know.
Anyone who works in advertising will tell you that if you want your business to survive you have to remarket yourself occasionally, change up your image. And I do not know who is responsible for their last ad campaign, but I think all it succeeded in doing was alienating a large portion of the population.
But times have changed. Now everything is about inclusivity, not exclusivity. Hell, even the Boy Scouts are now admitting girls. If that can happen why wouldn’t the Klan start admitting people of color into their ranks?
They have a long and ugly history behind them, and if they expect people to stay interested then they are going to have to have to make some big changes, like finally letting go of all of that bigoted-lynchmob-waspiness.
