I really like Netflix's Daredevil series. I was never much of a fan of the comics but it's a pretty excellent show. Then things got even better in season 2 when The Punisher showed up. Jon Bernthal plays Frank Castle, a former soldier with a bit of a grudge. Now Punisher is getting his own series on Netflix thanks to his popularity. This comes after the continuing deal between Marvel and Netflix that includes Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders as well as Daredevil. These shows are dark, gritty, and redefine what the superhero genre can be on TV. I can only imagine how gratuitously violent The Punisher's TV show is going to be. He's going to pretty much wipe out Hells Kitchen, which by the way isn't gritty anymore. It's full of yuppies and ladies pushing $1200 strollers.
Still, it will be interesting to see where they go with it. It can't all just be The Punisher shooting people in the face. At its heart his story is one about morality, pain, and loss as well as killing thugs. I believe Netflix can do it if their other Marvel shows are any indication.
