Michael Garcia - March 18, 2016
The new trailer for X-Men:Apocalypse just hit the web and it's...ok. For some reason this movie looks like a lot of the same to me. Perhaps we've reached maximum superhero saturation, though I don't think it's that. It just looks like another movie where a huge group of heroes has to take on a generic foe who levels most of a city. The only thing that I can hope for is that Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse is more interesting in the rest of the movie than he is in the trailer. Maybe this is just a case of mediocre trailer syndrome and the movie is awesome. There is certainly some cool stuff like Olivia Munn's Psylocke cutting a car in half midair.
i guess what I'm afraid of is that this movie is just going to be another forgettable superhero team up movie. I know these movies have a certain formula, but the best in the genre are able to give us something new while in the parameters of the formula. That's what comes from a good director and writer. Let's hope Singer is up for the task.
