You'd think that a movie written by Christopher McQuarrie and directed by Bryan Singer would elicit a better response from its new trailer than this. Maybe it's the bland CGI or the cliched Ian McKellen narration (was Morgan Freeman not available?), but I kind of just feel meh from the imagery the film is trying to evoke. It looks like it'll be fun and innocuous, but at least the Snow White and the Huntsman trailer had a distinct look to it that made you think maybe it was trying to do more than just rip off the name recognition of a child's fairy tale (coughRedRidingHoodcough).
An ancient war is reignited when a young farmhand unwittingly opens a gateway between our world and a fearsome race of giants. Unleashed on the Earth for the first time in centuries, the giants strive to reclaim the land they once lost, forcing the young man, Jack, into the battle of his life to stop them. Fighting for a kingdom, its people, and the love of a brave princess, he comes face to face with the unstoppable warriors he thought only existed in legend—and gets the chance to become a legend himself.
Starring Nicholas Hoult, Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy, Jack the Giant Slayer opens March 1st.
