Okay, maybe the NBA isn't saying it, but it's pretty likely that their new anti-flopping rules came into existence thanks to the antics of the Los Angeles Clippers last year. Blake Griffin, Chris Paul and Reggie Evans were some of the most notorious floppers in the league. Search 'Clippers flopping' on youtube and see for yourself.
Obviously the Clips weren't the only ones doing it, but they were a playoff team and have two of the NBA's biggest stars in Griffin and Paul, so it was getting more notice thanks to them. It was starting to look like soccer matches on NBA floors last season. Guys would get some minimal contact, scream as if they had just been stabbed and writhe on the floor like they suffered a career ending injury. It got old quick.
The NBA announced that they will start fining dudes $5,000 for each flop deemed to be 'any physical act that appears to have been intended to cause the referees to call a foul on another player' per a league release.
Hopefully it will put an end to that crap, but five grand to a guy making $18 million a year isn't much of a penalty. It's going to be up to the refs not to fall for that nonsense.
Reggie Evans gets called out for flopping.
