Get ready to meet George Jetson all over again as the seminal animated classic The Jetsons is coming to the big screen! Warner Brothers Animation has brought on director Conrad Vernon—the man who brought us last year's surprise hit Sausage Party—to develop an animated reboot of the property.
While he may seem an unconventional choice for the job, it's important to remember that before Sausage Party, Vernon cut his teeth on such animated smash hits as Shrek 2 and Monsters vs. Aliens. Still you can take the boy out of the Sausage Party but you can't take the Sausage Party out of the boy, so I would expect a rather subversive take on the material.
This won't be the space age family's first trip to the multiplex as fans may remember the 1990 film Jetsons: The Movie. And no, before you say it, 1987's The Jetsons Meet The Flintstones wasn't released theatrically! The 1990 film is embarrassingly bad, though, so it seems as if there's nowhere to go but up for this new adaptation. Expect lots of self-referential gags, as that's the only way to make nostalgia based properties go down smoothly these days. No release date has been set, but we'll keep you up to date on the latest info as it comes in!
