For months there were rumors that the obscure Marvel "superhero" Squirrel Girl was going to make her way into a live action Marvel property. Most of this was fueled by Anna Kendrick, who claimed to have a burning desire to play the fourth-tier character, and it looks like the publicity paid off... just not for Kendrick.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Freeform—formerly known as ABC Family—will be debuting the Marvel series New Warriors next season and will be including Squirrel Girl among the team. She'll be played by Milana Vayntrub, whom you probably know best as the helpful saleswoman from the AT&T commercials. Vayntrub will joined by an ensemble cast including Jeremy Tardy as Night Thrasher, Calum Worthy as Speedball, Matthew Moy as Microbe, Derek Theler as Mister Immortal, and Kate Comer as Debrii.
In case it weren't blatantly obvious already, the show will have a much more sardonic and humorous slant on the superhero world than other Marvel properties. I suppose that's the only way to bring a character like Squirrel Girl to life, but honestly, I think we'll all be tuning in to see just how much skin Milana Vayntrub's costume shows off. I'd let her forage for nuts in my yard any day of the week.
