James Wan's majorly successful horror flick The Conjuring has not only spawned a sequel, it has spawned two spin-offs (Annabelle and The Nun), with a third on the way later this month (The Curse of La Llorona). The first Conjuring spin-off, Annabelle, has a sequel (technically a prequel with 2017's Annabelle: Creation) and will complete its own trilogy later this summer with Annabelle Comes Home.
This is no ordinary threequel, however. It's more of a Conjuring Two and a Half, as Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga make their first appearance in one of the spin-off films as Ed and Lorraine Warren, stars of The Conjuring films. (Edit, I didn't see The Nun, and therefore didn't know that they cameoed in that one. Who knew?)
The film also marks the directorial debut of Gary Dauberman, who is credited with writing the previous Annabelle films as well as The Nun and both Chapters of It. We'll see how that turns out, though often the director of these things makes no difference whatsoever, they all ape James Wan's aesthetic anyhow. Having sat through both Conjuring and both Annabelle movies, I suppose I'll have to see this thing through to the end as well.
Get ready, because Annabelle Comes Home on June 28.
