I am a big Star Wars fan and am excited, and scared, for the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. However, I have my limits. I know that it's not real. There is no Force and people there aren't certain people with magic powers. I wish this wasn't the case but it's the reality of the world we live in. But don't tell that to the Church of Jediism. The British religion is having a huge renaissance right now due in no small fact to the release of the new Star Wars film. They are signing up 1000 people a day who want to learn the ways of the Force and live their lives by the tenets of the Jedi. Maybe I'm just cynical but I can't imagine living my entire life based on some sci-fi based BS that some Hollywood dude came up with 40 years ago. If I wanted to do that I'd just become a Scientologist.
It will be interesting to see if the Church of Jediism retains all of these new members after the hype of the new movie dies down. It makes me think of all of those millenarian movements in the 19th century that fell apart after the predicted end of the world didn't happen.
