Thandie Newton Snubbed From Time’s Up Nomination

Who’s honestly surprised that women bully other women? According to Thandie Newton, the Time’s Up movement totally forgot about intersectional feminism and left one of their sisters with more melanin hanging. What truly is feminism when the women at the top aren’t fighting for all women under them? I refuse to believe that elite women are crying sexual assault purely for public sympathy, settlements, and other self-interests. Allegedly there’s a tape of Thandie auditioning for a role that required her to spread eagle in a skirt while speaking suggestively into the camera. I don’t normally watch director’s cuts but a video like that may seem worth the time. But to Newton’s dismay she wasn’t A-list enough to have her story heard.

A director allegedly asked her to sit with her legs apart while he positioned a video camera at her skirt, and asked her to touch her breasts and perform her dialogue as though she was thinking of someone she just had sex with. Three years later, Thandie was approached by a producer at Cannes who creepily told her he’d “seen her recently.” She later discovered that the director had been playing the video for his friends after poker games at his house, and that they were all getting off on it.

Thandie recently told The Telegraph that she was shut out from participating in the Time’s Up movement in any official capacity.

“I wasn’t hot enough,” she explained, saying her relative level of fame was the likely factor for being eschewed. “I wasn’t mainstream enough and I wasn’t going to be at the Oscars this year, even though I am having a renaissance in my career.” She adds that not being asked to participate felt “very painful.” Thandie claims that speaking out in 2013 left her briefly “ostracized” in Hollywood.

Without missing a step, Time’s Up sent their attack ginger Jessica Chastain to shut Thandie down, stating no woman was ever unwelcome.

 Jessica Chastain, one of the movement’s most high-profile leaders, responded online to Asia Argento, who tweeted an article about Newton’s comments.

“I have felt so bad that some feel excluded,” she wrote in reply to Argento. “I was never asked to join anything, I just came forward to see how I could be of service. No one is unwelcome. The more women that come together, standing shoulder to shoulder, the stronger we are.”

I’m pretty sure Lena Dunham was publicly shamed for attempting to enlist in Me Too and no one wanted Kathy Griffen at the Women’s March. The quickest way to lose credibility as a victim of bullying is by becoming a bully yourself. There’s tons of infighting going on in these movements and it’s getting harder to hide. I guess if Michael Bay’s name wasn’t attached to your last film no one will care that the B-movie cameraman caressed your crevasse without consent.
