We've got some exciting news about Gotham, Fox's new Batman show without Batman. Not only will the show feature classic Batman villains such as The Riddler, The Penguin, and Catwoman, but it will also feature The Caped Crusader himself, if only for a moment.
As previously mentioned, Gotham will follow the exploits of a young James Gordon as he climbs the career ladder at the Gotham City Police Department. As such, it wouldn't make chronological sense for the character of Batman to appear. Of course, there'd be no issue with a young Bruce Wayne being involved in the story, a fact that isn't lost on network chairman Kevin Reilly who recently told Deadline "The show will track Bruce from a child until he puts on a cape (in the finale)."
Did he just give away the show's ending? Retroactive spoiler alert?
In all fairness, if you didn't know Bruce Wayne becomes Batman, this probably wasn't going to be the show for you, so he didn't really spoil the story. If anything, he made it sound more interesting.
Reilly went on to say that the show will also feature the origin story of many of the villains mentioned above.
"We will see how they get to become what they are as Gotham is teetering on the edge," said Reilly. "It is an operatic soap with a larger than life quality."
