DC Comics announced today that after 40 years Clark Kent will quit his job as a reporter at the Daily Planet. Superman's nerdy alter-ego has worked at the Daily Planet since the character began fighting for truth and justice and whatever back in the 40's. The reason that Clark decides to leave is because news isn't about facts and stories so much as it's about fluff and sensationalism. A fair point. The media has become increasingly entertainment oriented over the last couple of decades. Krypton knows that print media like the Daily Planet is on life support. So, what might Clark do as his next day job? Become a blogger. Like me. Really?
Look, I'm happy to do what I do. I get to come on here everyday and share my wonderful wit and whatnot with all of you. But if there is one thing it isn't is glamorous or exciting. Most days I don't even put on pants. Reporters, at least in the old days, had to hit the streets and talk to sources in seedy back alleys and stuff. We bloggers look up crap on the Internet and make jokes about it. While it would be totally awesome to have a blogger comic book hero - Superman no less - representing us, I can't help but think that readers will feel let down. The only thing I regularly fight for is my cat for the last Pizza Pocket.
