TV & FILM

Probably the best thing about DC's television universe is that it looks and feels nothing like their movie universe. This was a huge asset for Supergirl in its first two seasons, distancing itself from the Zack Snyder big screen grimdark nonsense, but from the very opening of this trailer for the show's third season, it's painfully obvious that they're trying to copy the "heavy lies the crown" aspects of being a superhero.
It's not necessarily strange seeing Melissa Benoist's Kara Zor-El in peril, but more than a few times in this trailer, it feels like it's becoming burdensome for her to continue her superhero crime fighting ways. That's all well and good, but it's territory that's been covered by, oh I don't know, every other major superhero property in the world at this point. The "Girl of Steel" statue thing may have been a bridge too far for me.
Anyway, those of you that are excited for the show's return, get even more excited thanks to this new trailer. Those of you who, like me, are extremely trepidatious now, brace yourselves for the worst and maybe you'll end up being pleasantly surprised. Supergirl returns to the CW on Monday October 9.
