If there's one job in Hollywood no one seems to want, it's directing the sequel to last summer's DCEU entry Suicide Squad. Last month we learned that Non-Stop director Jaume Collet-Serra was stepping in after Mel Gibson stepped aside, but now it looks like that was an alternative fact as Collet-Serra has decided to make Disney's Jungle Cruise with Dwayne Johnson instead.
Now, you may be wondering why this game of musical chairs continues to go on and on, but let's face facts here. Directing a sequel to a movie that made a ton of money but which almost nobody liked is a lose-lose. Sure, you could probably grab some director who has only worked in low-budget horror movies and throw him a bone like this, but that movie's going to suck even worse than the first one. No respectable director wants David Ayer's sloppy seconds, so going after a name isn't likely to yield any fruit either.
Maybe, just maybe, it's time to put this particular pipe dream to bed. There doesn't need to be a Suicide Squad sequel. No one really wants one and no one seems to want to make one, so let's read the tea leaves here and just move on with DC movies that people might actually want to see.
What do you think? Do you want a Suicide Squad sequel? Whom would you like to see direct it? Let us know in the comments section below!
