Now that Yoda is fair game in the Star Wars saga once again, Episode IX director J.J. Abrams is wasting no time getting the lovable green guy into his film. A new rumor is circulating thanks to a report in the New York Daily News that Yoda will be returning to offer guidance to Rey this time around...
“The success of the scenes featuring Yoda in ‘The Last Jedi’ were huge,” says our insider. If all goes according to plan, the sci-fi space sage will rejoin the series in spirit to mentor a young warrior played by British actress Daisy Ridley, we’re told.
“Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey's success and growth as a Jedi,” we hear. “The scenes are due to be put together later this year.”
My super cynical guess about all of this is that it's J.J.'s way of retconning Rey's parentage. Junk traders who lost her in a card game or whatever? Come on! How else could Abrams let Rey's story play out, honestly? He wants her to be Luke's daughter, or Kylo's twin, or some other stupid thing, and having Yoda tell her will be Abrams' way of lending the whole thing an air of legitimacy, like Patrick Stewart's voice.
Don't forget, that's just my super cynical take on all of this. I would love to be proven wrong. Fingers crossed I am on December 20, 2019.
