Are you ready to boldly go back to the future? Following yesterday's release of the first still image from the new series Star Trek: Discovery, we now have a full two and a half minute trailer that gives us our first glimpse at this series that will take place after Star Trek: Enterprise but before the Original Series.

While there's no denying that JJ Abrams made Star Trek cool again with his rebooted film franchise, this series is taking more than its fair share of cues from that iteration of Trek. You need look no further than the ubiquitous lens flares and the insistence on adding even more gleep glop aliens to a franchise that's rotten with them. Even still, as a fan, I can't help but get excited at the prospect of a new Star Trek series. It's been far too long and while re-watching the old episodes is great, I think we all crave new adventures.

The series debuts this Fall on CBS' streaming platform All Access, meaning that we've got to pony up for another streaming service. Hopefully it'll be worth it, and based on this trailer, I'm ever so slightly more optimistic that it will be. Star Trek's always been about optimism, though.
