With the MCU version of Spider-Man dead—for the time being—some other Spidermen are taking center stage in two films coming this fall. The first is this weekend's Venom, which is rumored to feature an extended sneak peek at the second, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, immediately following the credits.
This newest trailer for the animated Into the Spider-Verse gives us a better sense of the film's humor, which looks to be treading into Teen Titans GO! territory just a bit—especially the bits with John Mulaney's Spider-Ham and Nic Cage's Spider-Man Noir. That should come as no surprise since subversionists supreme Phil Lord and Chris Miller (The LEGO Movie, 21 Jump Street) wrote the script for this one.
Those of us that have been longing to see anyone but Peter Parker sling a web on the big screen are going to be excited to see what they've cooked up with this one. Plus, let's be honest, any chance to get more Nic Cage superhero action is one worth taking. Please, please, please, please, whomever takes over Superman in the DC film universe, let Nic Cage play Lex Luthor.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse swings into theaters on December 14, the same day as Mortal Engines and Clint Eastwood's The Mule.
