Arguably the best thing that the Disney/Lucasfilm merger has yielded is Dave Filoni's Star Wars Rebels series. Sadly we're in the back half of the show's final season, set to premiere on Monday night and conclude on March 5, but this new sneak peek at Monday's episode "Jedi Night" is every bit as poignant as we thought it might be.
There's lots to be excited about in terms of this final season, from Palpatine finally showing up to the Ghost crew becoming titular Rebels, but I get the feeling it's not going to end well for a lot of these characters. This sneak peek shows Kanan, Sabine, and Ezra going off on a rescue mission to save Hera, and the poignancy of Zeb's line, "Bring her back," coupled with the wistful music doesn't seem to bode well. The body count is probably going to start racking up, or at least as much as a body count ever racks up in a Star Wars property.
I hope that Lucasfilm and all the creative types in charge of the Star Wars universe take a cue from Rebels and begin crafting more programs and films that are in line with its sensibilities. "Jedi Knight" premieres next Monday night along with the following episode "Dume" on Disney XD.
