Here's the good news, nerds: Khan and Bilbo are officially teaming up for Season 4 of your beloved Sherlock.
Now here's the bad: you're going to half to wait another year and a half.
BBC One teased the announcement on Tuesday with a bunch of corny tweets before making it official on Wednesday. A one-off special will begin filming in January 2015 with filming of Season 4 (or if you prefer, Series 4) to take place later in the year. There is no official world on when the one-off special or Season 4 would air, but previous rumors about a Christmas special suggest the one-off might air in December of 2015 with the new three-episode season to follow in January of 2016. And of course, that is exactly what they did last time—special in December 2013, Season 3 in January 2014.
So why is it going to take so long? Because it's hard to line up everybody's schedule, y'all. Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock Holmes) wasn't in particularly high demand back in 2010 when the show started, nor was Martin Freeman (John Watson). Then Peter Jackson cast Freeman in The Hobbit, and J.J. Abrams cast Cumberbatch as Khan, and now they're all super busy.
The silver lining to the long wait? You have plenty of time to go back and watch or re-watch Seasons 1-3.
