Excuse my cynicism, but the celebrities of the world really are a bunch of money-grabbing sell out shithounds. These guys don’t seem assed about what they’re hawking, whether it’s remotely relevant to them and who they are, as long as the cashtacular’s right. Hulk Hogan’s Honey Nut Cheerios commercial is still the greatest thing I’ve ever seen in my life, but that’s just the tip of the crazy-berg.
Remember Ozzy Osborne hawking I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter? Or Arnold Schwarzenegger endorsing microwaves on the shopping channel? These things totally happened. Just ask the Internet, it’ll tell you.
All of that aside, though, when companies do manage to pair the right celebrity with the right product, it’s just effing beautiful. Shaquille O’Neal, star of piss-takey brawler Shaq Fu, promoting Counter Strike? This, I’m down with.
There is a little context here. As Fox Sports reports, Shaq became part owner of eSports crew NRG. These dudes have a League of Legends and Counter Strike team, the latter of which will be competing in the ELEAGUE that kicks off May 24.
