Sam Robeson - April 1, 2018

This Twitter back and forth between Sarah Silverman and a man without a penis is being lauded as an example of when two people can civilly agree to disagree. With our nation more polarized than ever, this is how we should go about discussing differences in opinion - neither party truly budging, but both walking away feeling more self-righteous and vindicated than before. I personally think it's just such a fascinating example - from both a medical and sociological perspective - and what happens when a man has not just his penis, but also his testicles, removed. Silverman took to Twitter to compliment the Roseanne reboot, stating:

watched @RoseanneOnABC last night & loved it. That familiar feeling of the old but w comedy & content so totally of this moment like the angst w/in close families over politics. Hope y’all let go of needing art 2 reflect/express only what u yourself feel. That’s not what art’s 4

But Kumail Nanjiani was so bold as to voice a different perspective:

Sarah, you know I love you & respect you. I believe who can bring themselves to watch what art is a subjective thing. I can’t bring myself to watch a person who mocks teens whose friends were murdered, who traffics in conspiracy theories that damage our world & reality.

To which Silverman replied:

I’m judging? Look- I muted her years ago. But I think the show could b good is all. It’s made by lots of people I  <3 & shows the grandparents reisting/then learning/then accepting stuff thats unfamiliar & therefore scary 2them =How change happens IMOIMOIMO LOVE U

And finally, to which Nanjiani - with his mummified genitals on a nearby shelf - replied:

I understand that perspective. <3  you too a lot.

If only we would all roll over on our backs so quickly just imagine how much would get done.
