That picture right there pretty much sums it all up. Two refs, same spot, one calling touchdown, the other calling an interception. The NFL has to be embarrassed, and has said that they will issue a statement about the call sometime today. I'm on pins and needles.
Commissioner Roger Goodell, despite the image he gives off, works for the owners. It is a league decision to have the refs locked out, not the commissioner's. The owners need to get their crap together and end the referee lockout right now.
The sad truth is that we're not going to stop watching, just as Steve Young said after the last couple of Monday Night Football games.
So far since last night, I've heard some people say that the play wasn't reviewable. Actually, every scoring play in the NFL is reviewed now by rule. Then people say, 'well, they can't review a simultaneous possession call.' Why not? It's a scoring play that needs to be reviewed. It should be noted, those aren't replacement replay officials. They got it just as wrong as the guys on the field.
I'm not a fan of either Green Bay or Seattle, but I am a fan of games being officiated the right way and the calls being right. I'm a long time fan of the NFL. In May, when the NFL was making plans to bring in replacement refs, I knew it was going to be a bad deal for everyone. It's not an indictment of the people who are filling in; they're trying but they just aren't qualified.
If the NFL truly cares about the product that they're selling to all of us, this ridiculous labor agreement needs to be solved and the regular refs need to get on the field Thursday night. I'll have the statement as soon as it gets released. Can't wait.
