The New York Jets are a little thin at running back right now. Sure, Shonn Greene lit it up last week with a monster game, but outside of him they have Joe McKnight dealing with an ankle injury and Bilal Powell out of the lineup with a jacked up shoulder. Naturally, reporters wanted to know if Tim Tebow could get snaps at RB when the Jets travel to Foxboro this weekend to play the Patriots.
"That's a possibility," Ryan said. "The thing about Tim, with him being a football player like we've always talked about ... by playing quarterback, he knows all the positions. And so can you plug him in at running back? Plug him in at tight end? Whatever ... I think the answer is yes."
So there are two things that could be happening here. Ryan could be playing head games hoping that the Pats have to spend time game planning for something he doesn't plan on doing, or he might actually be serious. It's hard to tell.
As I mentioned earlier in the week, everyone in the AFC East is 3-3, so while it's easy to say that the Jets need to do something to get their act together, the reality is that they're tied for first in the division. Tebow runs the ball just as hard as anyone else on the team does, so it wouldn't be a bad thing to get the ball in his hands.
If ever there would be a time to run a halfback option and have Timmy catch a sweep toss and then pull back to throw it, this would be the week. Either the Pats will be caught totally off guard, or just partially, but I doubt they would be completely ready for it. It should be an interesting game, because either the Jets keep it close or it gets out of hand early and ends up 42-10 or something ridiculous.
