2014's The LEGO Movie was one of the more surprisingly entertaining "family films" of the decade, thanks in large part to its vivid imagination and the depth of the worlds they created. This coming February, we will finally get the official follow-up, The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, following 2 spin-off films—The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie.
Chris Pratt is pulling double duty in this film, both as Emmet, his character from the first film, and a new character named Rex Dangervest who bills himself as a "Galaxy defending archaeologist cowboy and Raptor trainer." Some other new characters also include Stephanie Beatriz as Sweet Mayhem and Tiffany Haddish as Queen Watevra WaNabi, though it remains unclear at this point if these new characters are villains or will join the crew of Master Builders from the first film.
I'm more than willing to give the film's creators the benefit of the doubt. They took their time and didn't rush this sequel into theaters to capitalize on the tremendous success of the first film. It all looks a tad dodgy at the moment, though I'm sure they're keeping most of the big reveals under wraps for the time being. I still don't think any of us saw that live action twist coming in the first film, so be ready for anything this time around.
The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part hits theaters on February 8, 2019.
