Remember the film Reality Bites? Yeah, of course you do...if you are over 30.
If you are over 30, then you remember how the film captured the zeitgeist of the early 90s, with all the landline telephones and grunge music and Winona Ryder, and how it depicted the struggles of 'Generation X'as they started to graduate college and figure out what they wanted to do with their lives. You probably also remember how the film launched the careers of Ben Stiller and Janeane Garofolo, and how everyone owned the soundtrack, which featured the No. 1 single 'Stay (I Missed You)' by Lisa Loeb.
On the other hand, if you are under 30, you almost certainly have not seen that movie. Thus, you're probably wondering why NBC is working with Stiller and Helen Childress to develop a TV adaptation of this movie that neither you nor any of your friends has seen. And I don't blame you.
However, this is really happening. NBC is working with Stiller on a Reality Bites TV series.
Now, I'm not saying the show will be bad. Maybe it'll be great and make fun of how everyone in the early 90s just sat around wearing flannel and drinking lattes out of oversized coffee cups. I'm just saying, on paper, it seems kind of strange.
