The Rock Johnson's latest action extravaganza, Rampage, looks like a rather self-serious flick about gigantic monsters destroying a city. Now you'll be able to find out a full week earlier, as Warner Brothers has decided to move the film's release date up a week from April 20 to April 13, to give the film two weekends to play before Avengers: Infinity War opens on the 27th.
This sort of thing proves conclusively just how futile it is to establish release dates for films years in advance. Marvel has messed up everything, first when its Fox division moved Deadpool 2 up two weeks to May 18, and then when they moved Infinity War up a week to April 27. I think they were sort of expecting Solo to jump to Christmas because of its notoriously troubled production, but that obviously didn't happen. Not only does this affect other movies, but now all those collectors out there with an Infinity War poster from a year ago promising a May 4 release date will try to gouge the price on that stuff. This is a big problem Marvel, and you've created it.
It's not just The Rock Johnson and his monster movie that's suffering, you know. It's all of us. Anyway, you reap the benefits by getting to see The Rock Johnson in Rampage on April 13, though you may want to wait until 4/20 to check it out, if you know what I mean.
