June 17, 1994 my dad and I are at it again. Wolf, the new Jack Nicholson vehicle directed by Mike Nichols, hits theaters and dad I catch an early evening show on the film's opening day. I hadn't heard anything about the film yet, but was sold on those killer trailers and the fact that any film with Jack Nicholson turning into a werewolf was likely gonna be worth both our time and money.
What we got instead, of course, was a somnambulant performance from Nicholson where he eventually fights James Spader werewolf to the death and the whole thing is a metaphor for the cutthroat world of book publishing. Or something.
Anyway, I'd forget the entire experience were it not for what had begun while we were watching Wolf. We came out of the theater to learn that a police chase was in progress and O.J. Simpson was threatening to kill himself. It ended several minutes later with O.J. surrendering rather than ending it all.
That's right, the biggest pop culture event of many people's lives is, for me and my dad anyway, inexorably tied to the movie Wolf. So while everyone else was having the time of their lives watching that whole thing unfold, screaming that the Juice was Loose and so forth, I was stuck in a movie theater with my sleeping father watching Nicholson sleepwalk his way to another paycheck.
And what does all of this have to do with Hailey Baldwin, you wonder? Absolutely nothing.
