I don't know how it could work. It's been 20 years since the original Goonies movie, and a lot of its charm comes from the fact it was made in the 80s. Still, I'd love to see another Goonies film, since the first one was so much fun. I know a lot of you reading out there probably don't even know what the Goonies is, but do yourselves a favour and check it out.

Cohen [who played Chunk in the Dick Donner/Steven Spielberg original] said he was contacted by Steven Spielberg last year about the sequel, and loved the sound of the storyline they were throwing about for the second serve. According to the actor, the original cast, Donner and Spielberg were all keen to go but the studio, Warner, were not.
According to Cohen, there are other interested companies and investors willing to finance the sequel, but because Warner owns the rights - that's still no help.
Director Richard Donner told attendees of the event that he thinks it'll still get made. "Goonies 2 will still happen," the director said. "Provided enough of you keep complaining and sending in letters."
