When a Plants Vs Zombies shooter spin-off was announced, we weren't sure what to expect. It'd be a demented toontastic shitstorm, that was for damn sure, but how would it hold up? The genre doesn't take kindly to zaniness, after all. This is the realm of K/Ds and kids cussing down their mics and such. It is the most serious of serious business.

Against all odds, though, it was rather well received. With its base-capture-iness, character classes and perks, we're getting the best of both worlds. Garden Warfare is familiar enough to tempt more hardcore shooter players, yet with that cheeky Plants Vs Zombies aesthetic to draw in a more diverse crowd. Many are reporting neglecting Titanfall because they're busy sniping with pot plants. Which is, y'know, a triumph for homicidal horticulturists everywhere.

Even more miraculous --considering EA's involvement-- is the fact that the DLC thus far has been free. As will the freshly released ‘Zomboss Down' pack. This comprises the Cactus Canyon map, reams of new customization items and a level cap boosted to 30. Take a look at this piss-takey Wild West themed offering in the trailer above.
