It's a good time for the cheap-asses among us to be getting our game on.

The competition betwixt Sony and Microsoft's free games schemes (PS Plus and Games With Gold respectively) is quite entertaining to watch, really. In June, PlayStation brought us a free download of the Metal Gear Solid V prequel, Ground Zeroes. You can imagine the cartoon fist-shaking and Scooby Doo-style bitching about meddling kids from Microsoft that resulted from this coup.

Worry not though, Xbox-ers. You may be a couple months late to the party, but Ground Zeroes is coming your way now. Along with a couple other choice downloads. Let's take an ogle.

With the new Games With Gold system, Xbox 360 and Xbox One offer two games each per month. One available for the first two weeks of the month, and the second for the following two weeks. You can get yourself a lil' slice of Metal Gear from August 1 to 15, and How to Survive: Storm Warning Edition hits August 16-31. On 360, meanwhile, it's Metro 2033 from the first and Metro: Last Light from the 16th.

A good crop, all in all. As is often the case with these schemes, the best games are those you're likely to own, but still. Remember what grandpa said you should never do with gift horses? Exactly.
