TV & FILM
bill-swift - April 4, 2012
We like to believe that the creators and stars of our favourite TV shows live in a delightful utopia of artistic wonderment. A place where someone will make a joke only for it to be instantly topped by an other comedian, where no quarrels or arguments exist and where their show gets to last for at least six seasons and a movie. As Sam Cooke so eloquently chimed, 'What a wonderful place world this would be.'
Unfortunately Television programs are created by egotistically eccentrics whose constant one up-man-ship often leaves many actors, writers and directors weary and embattled but leave preying audiences hooked. And those of you waiting for the much anticipated sequel to the Christian Bale expletive rant and the battle of Chuck Lorre Vs. Charlie Sheen don't need to wait any longer.
This time the battle is between Community's head writer and creator Dan Harmon and the show's aged old performer Chevy Case.
On Saturday March 31st, Deadline reported that a feud had erupted between Harmon and Chase with the former playing a voicemail left by the latter and it instantly becoming a viral hit.
The whole disagreement began after Chase walked off-set while shooting the season finale and refused to finish one of his scenes. This was followed by Harmon giving a 'Fuck you, Chevy' speech at the shows wrap party which was in front of Chase's wife and daughter, which encouraged various members of the cast and crew to say 'fuck you' to the former SNL star.
Neither of these guys are coming off as the classiest people in the world at the moment.
Chase then left the vitriolic voicemail which includes him labelling Harmon a "asshole" and an "alcoholic fat shit" whilst also advising the show runner to "suck my cock." Insiders from the show have reportedly come out in favour of Chase and criticised Harmon's actions but it remains to be seen how this will effect the camaraderie of NBC's much lauded sitcom.
Of course there are number of conclusions to this story.
1) Chase leaves the show.
2) Chase remains on the show.
3) Community gets cancelled.
4) This latest drama gives the show a much needed ratings boost and allows Community to remain on the air with either scenario 1) or 2) being announced in due course.
Fingers crossed for 4).
