The headline matchup of NFC teams was San Francisco visiting Green Bay, and wow did the 49ers look impressive. They dominated the Packers, and if there was a statement to made, that was it. SF shut down whatever running game Green Bay thought they had, as Cedric Benson was held to 18 yards, and Aaron Rodgers led the team with 27 yards. Randy Moss scored a TD in his first game back in the NFL. The Niners could be scary.
Robert Griffin III looked like a seasoned veteran for Washington, the Saints looked like a team that had a tumultuous offseason. Tampa Bay's defense made a lot of people look foolish, especially Carolina's running game. The Panther had TEN (!) yards rushing on the day against Tampa's improved D. Seattle couldn't steal a win on the road in Arizona, and the Cardinals confusing QB situation took another turn with John Skelton injuring his ankle, which could keep him out for a few weeks. Kevin Kolb stepped in and led the team to the win. Controversy? You bet!
St. Louis nearly stole a win at Detroit, but Matthew Stafford led a masterful drive to pull out a dramatic Lions' win. Detroit can't be nearly giving away wins at home to subpar opponents, and Stafford can't be throwing three picks a game if Detroit wants to get back to the playoffs.
