The days of the 'must-have' running back in the NFL are basically gone. Running back by committee has made the feature back nearly obsolete, so running backs keep dropping further down draft boards.
There are exceptions to the rule every now and then, and this year Alabama's Trent Richardson is that exception. Strong, fast, durable and sure-handed, Richardson will likely be the only RB taken in the first round Thursday night. That's not to say that there aren't other good running backs in the draft, but teams can get the guy they want, or someone nearly as good, later on and pay less for them.
