If you want to walk into the theater next month and see War for the Planet of the Apes without any foreknowledge of what might happen, I might encourage you to skip this new clip from the film. At the same time, it's not terribly revealing out of context and shows a moment of absolute nail-biting intensity between lead ape Caesar and Woody Harrelson's Colonel, so maybe you want to check it out just to get your excitement levels up a bit.
As I've mentioned before, this new Apes trilogy is among the best genre filmmaking of the decade and may one day prove to be the best trilogy produced between 2010 and 2019. The motion capture technology is unbelievably seamless and just keeps getting better with each successive film. I'm also a big fan of making the human characters expendable from film to film. While James Franco, John Lithgow, Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, and Keri Russell's characters never died on screen, they also didn't carry over into the next film, which is a pretty bold move in the age of the modern blockbuster.
Again, if you want to walk in cold, don't watch the clip, but if you've got an itchy finger, I'd recommend hitting play and allowing the excitement to wash over you. War for the Planet of the Apes hits theaters on July 14.
