While not the biggest story of the night, Marvel announced that tickets are now on sale for Black Panther by airing a new trailer for the film which says as much during the college football championship game. Marvel does things bigger than most, so this should come as no surprise.
I must admit, I'm a little worried that every trailer ends with that same 360 degree shot of Black Panther flipping from one car to another. Don't get me wrong, it's well executed and looks cool, I just worry that it's a bit too much of a "this is the best we've got" scenario. They've either got some much more awesome set pieces tightly under wraps, or they're trying to overcompensate for something.
I am also, however, more than willing to give Ryan Coogler the benefit of the doubt. The man made the Rocky franchise feel fresh, exciting, and visceral in a way it hadn't in nearly 40 years. It had become "Montage: The Motion Picture Franchise" and Coogler breathed new life into it and pushed it into the future. If anyone can make your run-of-the-mill origin-ish story fun to watch, I think he's one of the directors who can do so. Black Panther opens just after Valentine's Day on February 16.
