2012's Cabin in the Woods remains one of the most thoroughly entertaining genre films of the decade and director Drew Goddard has finally gone back behind the camera for his follow-up. Bad Times at the El Royale looks like another subversive and violent take on the kind of film we've all seen dozens of times before, and it's got a cast to beat the band.
Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Dakota Johnson, and Nick Offerman star in this flick about a group of dubious individuals who all end up in the same motel on the same night. In a Goddard-esque twist, however, it appears as if someone's watching them, literally, as there's a walkway that allows supervisors to see everything going on in the rooms.
I'm not sure how this will all play out, but I know that Goddard is good enough at this sort of thing to merit a modicum of trust. Plus, who doesn't love seeing Jeff Bridges grumble his way through another role as a grizzled old salt? This will also be a great place to see what Goddard can do with a bigger cast and bigger budget, as his next film is going to be the Deadpool 2 follow-up X-Force.
Bad Times at the El Royale hits theaters on October 5.
