One week from today we get to see for ourselves whether Alien: Covenant is a return to form for the Alien franchise or another Prometheus-sized disappointment. Honestly, having the word Alien in the title alone is enough to give me a modicum of comfort that it'll be the former rather than the latter, but still, you never know.
This new clip from the film is a great indicator that we're heading back to terra firma as Oscar nominee Demian Bichir (The Hateful Eight) gets acquainted with what's known as a "Facehugger." Fans of the franchise will recognize it as the thing that put the alien in John Hurt's stomach in the original, so chances are this doesn't end well for Bichir, even though his friend helps him get the thing off.
Still, I can't help but wonder why these people have unlimited technology in the whole universe to travel light years away from Earth and the best they can do in a dark cave is a crappy little flashlight on top of a gun. Come on, guys, you've gotta keep some flood lights on the ship or something. These people don't stand a chance... which seems to me like an indicator this will be a great flick. Alien: Covenant opens on May 19.
