If you grew up with an NES in your home, odds are you owned at least one—if not all—of the Castlevania games. These side-scrolling adventures combined elements of RPGs and Platform games in new and interesting ways—for the time—and are consistently ranked among people's favorite games released on the system.
The series has continued since then—with PS1's Symphony of the Night a personal favorite—and several attempts were made to bring the franchise to the big screen, but none got past the pre-production phase. Enter Netflix who is taking the series back to its roots with this new animated adventure from executive producer Adi Shankar. Fans hungry for a good old fashioned showdown between series protagonist Simon Belmont and the evil Dracula are going to be thrilled by this first trailer, which obviously takes more than a few stylistic cues from Anime.
With the wealth of nostalgia based properties we've seen come down the pike in the last few years, this one really feels like it's going for that sweet spot between reminding you of what you love about the series and moving things into the future. So blow into your old cartridges and fire up Netflix when Castlevania premieres on July 7.
