Steve Carell is coming back to television in a new series that will reunite him with the creator of the American version of The Office, Greg Daniels, titled Space Force. If that name rings a bell, it's the newly announced sixth branch of the armed services that was launched this past summer, designed to protect the United States from space invaders.
The obvious logical flaws with the notion of a Space Force are likely the driving force behind this comedy, which The Hollywood Reporter broke as basically being pitched as The Office in space...
Carell will star in the series, which is described as a workplace comedy centered around the people tasked with creating a sixth branch of the armed services — Space Force.
Don't expect a ton of episodes, however, as Carell being both the star and executive producer doubles his salary well past the million-dollar-an-episode salary he will command. This is Netflix, though, and they just raised prices, so maybe some of that money will be sent as a QuickPay to Carell.
Provided they do anything beyond the basic "The Office in space" premise, this could be legitimately funny. Lord knows the source material is ripe for ridicule. Never underestimate the ability of talent to become lazy and complacent, however, which could lead this series toward lowest common denominator humor and obvious jokes.
