NBA Commissioner David Stern has talked about this being the last Olympic games where the NBA superstars participate (possibly restricting it to just the younger players under 23). Should that be the case the onus is on this squad to make sure that the U.S. brings home the gold.

No one wants to be the team of pros that couldn't win the gold. While injuries have knocked some players out of contention, pride, ego, and/or perhaps the love of country and thrill of competition have pushed others to play.

With the talent that is accumulated here you have to believe the U.S. is easily the favorite. The following nine players have made the squad:

LeBron James, Miami; Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles; Carmelo Anthony, New York; Chris Paul, Los Angeles (Clippers); Deron Williams, Brooklyn; Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City; Russell Westbrook, Oklahoma City; Kevin Love, Minnesota; and Tyson Chandler, New York

Being considered for the remaining three slots are:  Blake Griffen, Los Angeles (Clippers); Andre Iguodala, Philadelphia; Rudy Gay, Memphis; James Harden, Oklahoma City; Eric Gordon, New Orleans; Anthony Davis, New Orleans.

Davis is expected to be left off the roster after spraining his ankle this week.
