Michael Vick, Animal Activist?

The idea may sound a little ludicrous all considering, but according to some recent reports it would appear that the former leader of a dog fighting ring and current leader of the Philadelphia Eagles is trying to encourage others to show their cocks a little love.

I'm talking about roosters; you know—cockerel, chanticleer, cocks, or simply male chickens.

Recently Vick, who is still on probation stemming from his conviction on federal dog fighting charges, spike out in favor of a bill that is working its way through the Alabama state legislature. The bill, if it passes, will increase the penalty for those busted for cockfighting. Currently the penalty is only $50; yes, folks, just $50.

Should the bill pass the maximum penalty could be as much as $6000, a bit more of a deterrent than a simple $50.

Vick's work may all be for naught. The bill appears to be stuck in the Senate Rules Committee which is chaired by state Senator Jabo Waggoner. Apparently it doesn't matter to him that three quarters of the people are in favor of the bill (SB175), and only 11 percent are against it (maybe those 11 percent are friends of his?).

Since being released from prison Vick has been working diligently as an advocate for animal rights in hopes of repairing his severely tarnished image. Whether his community activity is what has made him a household name again or the stellar season he had in 2010 when he appeared to have finally learned how to pass (face facts folks, the man couldn't hit the broad side of a barn before he went to prison) remains to be seen.

Anyone wondering whether Vick is wishing he got into cock-fighting rather than dog fighting?

If he struggles again this season as he and the Eagles did at times in 2011 we'll likely see just how much America (or at least Philadelphia) does love/hate him (I think its clear what Tucker Carlson thinks).
