It should hardly come as a surprise that critics panned Michael Bay's Transformers 4. When it comes to things like plot, character development, and making sense, Bay's Transformer movies are usually lacking.

That being said, what these flicks lack in quality they make up for in profitability. The second two instalments in the franchise were not nearly as well-received as the first, but each one made more money than the next. Factoring in the fourth instalment, which had a $100 million opening this weekend despite a 17% from Rotten Tomatoes and a 32 on Metacritic, the franchise has now grossed and insane $2.769 billion at the box office.

So does Michael Bay care if the critics don't like his movie? Not so much. And this weekend, while doing a press junket for Transformers in Hong Kong, he basically told MTV News exactly that:

They love to hate, and I don't care; let them hate. They're still going to see the movie! I think it's good to get a little tension. Very good. I used to get bothered by it, but I think it's good to get the dialogue going. It makes me think, and it keeps me on my toes, so it's good.

Translation: "Sorry, what was the question? I did not hear you because I was thinking about how I'm going to buy a gold-plated caviar factory. You know, rich people shit."
