The Marvel Cinematic Universe gets its first super-powered SHEro this March when Brie Larson flies into action as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. Sure there have been plenty of women hanging around the MCU in the past, but she's the first one to headline a film all by herself so, you know, sorry Wasp, Black Widow, Gamora, Scarlet Witch, Nebula, Lady Sif, Okoye, Valkyrie, Peggy Carter, Mantis, Shuri, Nakia, and all the rest.
This new "Special Look" as it's been dubbed takes us a little more in-depth than we've been in the past promos, showing how the Skrulls morph into humans, along with how the relationship between Carol and a young Nick Fury developed. Him asking her to prove she's not a Skrull definitely got a chuckle out of me, and it gives me confidence that this will be another solid entry in the MCU.
Plus Ben Mendelsohn's along for the ride as the bad guy this time around, which is always a welcome sign. I imagine Jude Law's character will also have a Sinestro-esque relationship with Carol, training her in the ways of the Kree soldier but then coming into conflict with her later in the film when she goes against their "greater good" principle. Or something, who knows? These movies can be awfully predictable sometimes.
Tickets for Captain Marvel are on sale now, with the film hitting theaters across North America on March 8.
